Alternate Mitchell family Motto?

I bet JD would think this explained a lot. ;-)

Hi, tiny fandom!

I've written some Spencer Griffith fic (with occasional Skipper); it's set in Spence's second tour at the SGC. Lots of plotty science fiction stuff, liberal garnishes of the Black Mountain relatives. It also includes a bunch of new OCs, including a romantic interest with a slightly fascinating CV. First bit of a novel-length fic that's still in progress.

Blast Radius (16827 words) by faviconstaranise
Chapters: 2/?
Fandom: Clan Mitchell - Fandom, Stargate SG-1
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
Warning: Graphic Depictions Of Violence
Relationships: OMC/OFC
Characters: Original Characters, Original Male Character, Original Female Character

A Stargate officer back for his second tour. A retired Trust agent trying to move on with her life. A slightly-restless galaxy and a secret program that's been bursting at the seams for a decade now.

Sometimes the question isn't what will go wrong. It's what will go right.

An OC-centric AU, set post-S10. Contains less than 10% real canon characters.

Which reminds me--"Clan Mitchell - Fandom" on the AO3 now wrangles to its own fandom, not Stargate. So if you go back and re-tag your fics, they're easier to find.

I also did a 30-questions meme about the story, my process for it, and my thoughts on some worldbuilding here.

well, it's ALMOST a Clan Mitchell fic

... by virtue of having BW'verse JD in, anyway.

Posting this here because I know some members have been reading my friends'verse stuff and aren't subscribed to my journal. At any rate, consider this your notice that LP is finally finished.

Author's Notes: Sequel to "Friends in Strange Places," prequel to [personal profile] synecdochic's A Howling in the Factory Yard, though it's not necessary to have read Howling first (the coda will make much more sense if you do, however). Set in [personal profile] synecdochic's Broken Wings'verse. This is the COMPLETE, and extensively revised, version of the story formerly titled "Little Pitchers."

For those of you playing along at home from the beginning of "Little Pitchers," I appreciate your patience while I finished this!

Because I believe in giving you options:

Show of hands, who thinks this comm's been too quiet too long?

I vote we take another crack at a Clan Mitchell commentfic meme. Leave as many prompts as you like (one per comment, please), as simple or complicated as you like, name characters or 'verses if you like and don't if you don't, write to any prompt that catches your fancy, all ratings and pairings welcome, crossovers welcome, new additions to the family welcome, multiple fills very welcome, and if you don't have a DW account feel free to post prompts or fills under OpenID.

Only two things not welcome, in fact. First, if you're writing anything critical of the Clan or otherwise potentially hurtful to anyone here, keep it to your own journal, I beg you. Second, to quote [personal profile] synecdochic from last go-round, "The only thing that [personal profile] ivorygates and I ask is that there be nothing with things we're actively working on for others to write, so no Gedulah or any of IG's active storylines. Sidestories from Roll With It are cool by me, but not anything more future than what's been written so far; Gedulah's out, since there's a lot more canon than what people have seen."

Who's with me?

I apologise to those who have been hurt by recent events, and I regret that the worst of this has happened when I was not in a place, physically or emotionally, to take action to shut the situation down before it got further out of control. The kind of behaviors that have been demonstrated over the past several days are not what I want for this community. I apologize for being unable to take action to remedy the situation earlier.

Several people have questioned whether or not they can or should continue writing in my universes after my reactions. I do not, and have never, had a problem with people writing alternate takes on the characters and situations I've written, presuming that the Creative Commons BY-NC license that all of my fiction is released under is respected when work that is derivative or transformative of my own transformative work is released (to your journal, to your website, to the AO3, wherever). Some people haven't been doing that, and I didn't realize how much that, among other things, has been upsetting me until developments related to this incident made me realize that was one of the things that was putting me in a bad space. If you've written anything that's a remix or a derivative or transformative work of anything of mine, please add reference that it is such a work, along with a link back to my journal.

I had realized that people writing fic that takes place in the 'future' of universes I have not yet finished is a major problem for me and my creative process, which is why I asked for people not to do so in this community where I was watching. Thank you to those who respected that request without dismissing it, and I do ask that, if you write it, you continue to not show me or link me to anything of that nature.

The topic of critique has, of course, also come up. I have no problems with critique of my work once it has been finished, and I have no problems with alternate versions of my work that are done to examine other themes or ideas, as long as they're labeled as such. I don't particularly want to play the justification game, but the reason I was so shocked and hurt in this situation was because I saw a number of people responding to characterize the family as harmful or abusive, in a way that made it clear that they weren't talking about alternate universes or alternate interpretations but about the main set of things I've written, in a place where I had earmarked for celebration and not critique, while I was in creative mode to work on prompts and not in critique-handling mode to hear discussion. Those crossed wires are what caused my screeching car-crash dissonance, and I apologize for being unable to handle it. I was originally planning not to respond at all, and I should have stuck to that resolution.

I do not speak for [personal profile] ivorygates and she does not speak for me. She is no longer a maintainer of this community. Please do not lecture me about her behavior; I do not approve, but I do not and will not conduct confrontations with my friends in public.

I am not anywhere near a place right now where I can discuss this and the other things that have been affecting me, which is why comments have been disabled on this entry and why I will be taking a break from this community and from my journal until I am in a better place both physically and mentally. I know that saying this will most likely contribute to the drama, and I apologize for that as well, but I am in a very bad place right now and further interaction about this topic or anything related to it is going to make it worse.

Clan Soundtrack

So I've apparently been sucked into this concept of writing a Clan Mitchell/Psych crossover, and while I have plenty of 80's music to fuel the Shawn Spencer of my brain (heaven help us all), I don't know that I have much that would suit writing the Clan.  Especially as this would be my first time of writing anything at length for the Clan.  So, if you listen to music while writing, what kind of thing do you listen to while writing the Clan?  I'm looking for band names and songs and such, and any explanations you care to offer about why those songs and bands in particular would be most welcome.
summary so far )

So as you might imagine I can use all the help I can get.  So, soundtrack ideas, please?  Thanks!

Clan Mitchell Not-A-Kinkmeme

Because I am starting to, very tentatively, get my writing mojo back, and because everything I am writing is eight thousand billion million words long, and because we were talking about running a Clan Mitchell thing-a-thon a while back and then we all kind of wandered off ooh shiny, I thought it might be cool to do a Clan Mitchell not-a-kinkmeme. (By which I mean, the prompts and responses can be porn or not-porn based on individual preference.)

The way it works is nice and simple:

-- Leave a prompt. It can be simple or detailed; it can specify characters or not. (The only thing that [personal profile] ivorygates and I ask is that there be nothing with things we're actively working on for others to write, so no Gedulah or any of IG's active storylines. Sidestories from Roll With It are cool by me, but not anything more future than what's been written so far; Gedulah's out, since there's a lot more canon than what people have seen.) One prompt per comment; multiple comments are fine!

-- Browse around the prompts, and if one strikes your fancy, fill it. (Both prompts and fills can be anonymous or logged-in. There can be more than one fill for a prompt. In fact, the more the merrier!)

-- Repeat until we all get bored.

Prompts should revolve around the Clan in some way, whether being Cam or Cammie's version. If you've got a specific 'verse in mind (Broken Wings/Howling/Roll With It, "mainline" Cammieverse, Mezzanine), include that in the prompt. If it's "any Mitchell-containing universe", you don't need to specify.

Prompts and fills with OpenID are welcome, and if somebody who's not mostly avoiding LJ wants to post a link in [ profile] clanmitchell please feel free :)

FIC: Better Than No Family At All [Friends'verse AU]

So anyway, there's this AU of the Friends'verse where Hetty Lange is a Tok'ra, LJ Gibbs is a woman and Cam's daddy has a much older sister that no one really talks about who left Black Mountain when she was 17, and you can probably see where this is going by now ...  I lay the blame for this solidly at the feet of [personal profile] killing_rose who made the comment that spawned this as-yet unnamed AU and then totally egged me on to write it, as well as [personal profile] ilyena_sylph who made a comment about "powerfully Southern  names" and led me to conclude that  of course Gibbs (of either sex) is a Mitchell, because that explains everything.  This snippet?  Totally their fault.

FIC: Little Pitchers 3/10 -- "Patterns in the Sand" (NCIS/NCIS:LA/SG-1)

Sorry for the long delay, and my apologies to those of you who also read my personal journal and are seeing this twice.  Still no Cam or JD (or for that matter, Ba'al, Balim) but rest assured we're getting there.  Just as a general warning for later, if you're an NCIS continuity wonk, I've kept the Broken Wings timeline as is (as this is a prequel to Howling), but I've played a bit fast-and-loose with the dates (though not the actual sequence of events) in NCIS to make this thing work.

No warnings for this chapter.

FIC: Two Friends'verse stories, written for 3W4DW

In case the populace is interested, here's a couple of Friends'verse stories, starring (respectively) Jack and jdn, written to fill requests I got for 3W4DW.  They're a matched set, which is why I'm posting both here even though only the second one is technically Clan Mitchell-type material.  (Incidentally, if anyone else wants fic, feel free to toss a request my way.  There's a week left of 3W4DW and my docket has slots empty.  :) )

These should be read in the order they're listed.

Title: Ozymandias
Fandom: NCIS/SG-1 (NCIS:LA implied), set in the Friends'verse
Word Count: 1,196
Jack O'Neill, Gibbs, Ducky, Jenny Sheppard
Rating:  PG-13 (Gen, rating is for language; it's Jack)
Notes: For [personal profile] spanish_bookworm who requested some backstory about Jack, Gibbs, and Jenny.  Welcome to 1986.

Title: Echo in the Bone
Word count: 978
: Stargate SG-1/NCIS (Friends'verse)
Characters: jdn, mention of others
Rating:  PG-13/R, language and subject matter
Spoilers:  Really helps to have read A Howling in the Factory Yard
Summary: Old ghosts and promises to keep.  Missing scene from June of Howling.  Companion piece to "Ozymandias."
Notes:  For [personal profile] synecdochic , who asked for something about jdn.

FIC: Little Pitchers 2/10 (Keepers of Secrets)

If you found yourself a bit disappointed in Chapter 1 (I may yet go back and rework it because while it is Necessary to the Exposition, I'm still really not wild about it), I think you'll be pleasantly surprised to find that Chapter 2 hews much closer to the flavor of Friends.

First paragraph under the cut for your previewing pleasure )

Chapter 2 is here:  Keepers of Secrets
Chapter 1: Small Favors

Part the First: Friends in Strange Places

You know, I had originally rejoiced because Hetty is Not Gibbs, but I've come to discover she's worse:  she's literary, and she speaks Russian.  And Hebrew.  And probably some other languages she hasn't told me about yet.  Do not ask about my Firefox tabs.  -_-

Also, it is apparently now traditional for Chapter 2 to be the "NCIS talks to O'Neill" chapter.

FIC: Little Pitchers 1/10

Since I know some of the folks 'round these parts read and liked Friends in Strange Places, and because this is a Broken Wings'verse story, intended partly to fill in the "missing year"  between Book One and Howling (and Cam and jdn will eventually put in an appearance, even if this isn't primarily a Clan Mitchell story), I figure I can slip this one in on a technicality.

I am therefore happy to announce that Chapter 1 of "Little Pitchers" (the sequel to "Friends") is now available on my AO3.

Chapter 1: Small Favors, right this way please.

Chapter 2 should make its appearance this weekend.

I am also desperately, desperately in need of an SG-1/Howling'verse continuity beta for some of the later chapters if there are any takers out there.  :)

ETA: For those that don't know "Friends", this is an NCIS/NCIS :LA/SG-1 crossover.
