Question:
Would anyone be up for helping me organize a Clan Mitchell holiday exchange?

Me me me!

I'm pretty bad at writing for ficathons, so I'll feel less guilty if I help organize it.
boosette[personal profile] boosette on October 10th, 2009 01:39 am (UTC)
Oh, awesome! I'll be heading out to No Internet Land over the holidays proper, so I'll definitely need help.

I think we should adopt yuletide's format: pick the characters you want (at least two or three of them should be Clan Mitchell OCs? Or is it fair to ask for, say, Sam/Cam at the homestead?) and then ... we match up participants. And stuff.
Elisabeth[personal profile] goldjadeocean on October 10th, 2009 01:42 am (UTC)
I, personally, am prone to be generous and liberal in these matters. Part of the love of the Clan is the OCs; part of it is giving actual Stargate a different backdrop.

I think so, too, and I think it'd be easiest if we had people request characters and offer characters and have "you will get fic with this character in it in some manner" be the only guarantee, and then encourage people to write to their Clan Mitchell Santa with additional wishes.

(Possibly make arrangements for people who only write het or only slash or only gen or something?)

Yeah, I think something like this might work best. I think the SGA Secret Santa might have a good model: a couple things you want, a couple things you absolutely don't want, and then what you can do. That way people can specify things like gen/het/slash, or what version of the family (BW vs Cammie vs regular SG-1 vs God only knows what other tangents), but it wouldn't be too restrictive.
Elisabeth[personal profile] goldjadeocean on October 10th, 2009 06:03 pm (UTC)
I like the sound of that format.

(BW vs Cammie vs regular SG-1 vs God only knows what other tangents),

Oh, god, this verse is such a tangled mess of AUs and realities that I kindof want to strangle everyone except for the part where they've provided me with hours of entertainment and a shiny new journal service, so ... notsomuch.

But definitely a part where they specify which 'canons' they can write - I'm good to go with most of Syn's canons, but haven't even begun to dig into Ivorygates' stories so couldn't write the family in that continuity.

(Maybe a field for "how straight do your take your Daniel Jackson?" XD)

Maybe a field for "how straight do your take your Daniel Jackson?"

*laughs ass off*

Possibly also, "Any strong chromosomal preferences?"
Elisabeth[personal profile] goldjadeocean on October 11th, 2009 01:36 am (UTC)
I think it should be a fill-in-the-blank. "Daniel Jackson is _____"
stultiloquentia[personal profile] stultiloquentia on October 11th, 2009 02:01 pm (UTC)
That. Yep.
synecdochic: daniel - straight. no really.[personal profile] synecdochic on October 14th, 2009 03:57 am (UTC)
Which just makes me tempted to think of other ways to fill in that blank.
boosette[personal profile] boosette on October 14th, 2009 03:58 am (UTC)
"Daniel Jackson is still alive."?
synecdochic[personal profile] synecdochic on October 14th, 2009 04:08 am (UTC)
"for now."
Elisabeth[personal profile] goldjadeocean on October 14th, 2009 03:58 am (UTC)
Googlisms house.bitchbitchbitch commentfic ahoy?
synecdochic[personal profile] synecdochic on October 14th, 2009 04:08 am (UTC)
do not tempt me! I have things to do!

I'd be willing to give it a shot.
Elisabeth[personal profile] goldjadeocean on October 10th, 2009 05:51 pm (UTC)
Party time!

(Disappointment of the year: we don't qualify as a Yuletide fandom.)
boosette[personal profile] boosette on October 10th, 2009 06:06 pm (UTC)
Awesome!

Also, I think we should get a signal-boost going that we're vetting interest in this exchange. I think we could do it with as few as ten or so participants?
slybrarian[personal profile] slybrarian on October 10th, 2009 06:08 pm (UTC)
Yeah, I suppose so. I really have no idea how many would be too few. Even if there's not enough people interested, we could always do some kind of open prompt thing instead.
boosette[personal profile] boosette on October 10th, 2009 06:11 pm (UTC)
An open-prompt thing would be an awesome fall-back plan, because we definitely need to get some kind of holiday Mitchell hijinks going on in this comm.

Could follow [livejournal.com profile] lynnevitational's format and offer both! Here's her rules:

THE RULES:

1. There are 2 choices of format available:

FORMAT A: Each writer will write something of her own choosing. And if you happen to choose that unfinished fic that's been lingering on your hard drive, go nuts. Please sign up as follows:

Name: lynnenne
Format: A

FORMAT B: The usual format, in which you request a fic, and someone else is assigned to write it. If you request a fic, you will also be assigned a fic. Please sign up as follows:

Name: lynnenne
Format: B
Preferred pairing (if any): Spike/Angel
Preferred rating: smut
Two things I'd like to see in my fic: post-NFA, hurt/comfort
One thing I'd prefer not to see in my fic: torture
One character I would prefer not to write: Xander (you only get one veto, so pick the one you have the toughest time with)
Elisabeth[personal profile] goldjadeocean on October 11th, 2009 01:52 am (UTC)
Oooh. I could do something with that.
boosette[personal profile] boosette on October 11th, 2009 01:53 am (UTC)
This would definitely ease up the work on us organizers - I like it!
Elisabeth[personal profile] goldjadeocean on October 11th, 2009 01:37 am (UTC)
I'm thinking a poll is in order. Shall I make one?
boosette[personal profile] boosette on October 11th, 2009 01:39 am (UTC)
Yes please!
